Company History

Malton Inflight Limited was formed in 1989 by the current CEO, Gordon Oakley.

Among the Company's early customers were well known but now, sadly, defunct names such as Caledonian Airways, Dan Air, Air Europe, Leisure International, Swissair, Crossair and BIA. However, do not let this apparent "obituary list" put you off becoming a customer of Malton's - many, many more of the world's leading airlines, are current customers - very much alive and kicking!

Initially the Company's strengths were mainly in sourcing and manufacture in China with products such as Hot Towels, Amenity Kits, Headphones and Fun Packs. In 1993, Malton Inflight was one of the first airline specialist companies to open a dedicated sourcing and inspection office in China. Most of the Company's products are now sourced from China, with independent inspection assured by Bureau Veritas. Today Malton has representative offices in Shenzhen and Shanghai.

Malton Inflight has been a member of ITCA (formally IFCA) the International Travel Catering Association since the Company was formed and now exhibits at the annual trade show in Europe as well as other trade shows around the world. In 1998, the Company was awarded the first of three Mercury awards for Wic-Kid; an innovative inter-active childrens fun pack linked to an online web site - way ahead of its time!

Two years later the company won its second Mercury award for the Gash Gobbler, a leak-proof Trash Compactor Box, which has since been upgraded and is now in use with many airlines around the world. Then in 2003 a third Mercury award was gained for an innovative 2-in-1 Handsoap and Air Freshener product, which has since been upgraded to include a sister product; Airgenie 2-in-1 Moisturiser and Air Freshener.

In 2004 Malton Inflight became one of the first airline supply specialists to develop a unique range of environmentally-friendly, compostable "plastic" products made from sustainable materials such as corn and potato starch, with its Back2Earth range.

The company moved it's head office operation to Basepoint, near London-Gatwick airport in April 2007 and has initiated the process to become fully accredited to ISO 2001.

In September 2007, Malton Inflight Limited re-branded it's corporate logo to reflect the global spread it now utilises in manufacturing and to announce its intention to become more socially-responsible and ethical in its approach to manufacturing and to develop a wider range of environmentally-friendly products specifically for the airline product market.
